SCURRY COUNTY, TX — A fireman with the City of Snyder was killed in an off-duty one-vehicle crash in Scurry County over Memorial Day weekend.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 7:50 PM along US Highway 180, 5 miles west of Snyder. It involved a 2001 Ford F-250 driven by Roy Edward Bolen Jr., 54 years of age, male from Snyder, TX
The preliminary investigation revealed that Bolen was traveling west on US-180. Given the rainy and wet road conditions, the driver was operating the vehicle at an unsafe speed, which caused them to lose control. The vehicle veered into the south ditch, skidded to the side, and overturned. Bolen was killed in the accident.
According to a Facebook post by the City Of Snyder Fire Department, “Firefighter Bolen was a dedicated member of the Snyder Fire Department, serving with honor, courage, and commitment for 9 years. Their unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our community will never be forgotten.”
Snyder Fire Chief Nathan Hines advised that anyone led to show support to the Bolen family with a monetary donation, can do so by making checks out to Snyder Volunteer Fire Department and dropped off at the Snyder Fire Department during office hours Monday – Friday. Checks can also be mailed to 1911 27th St, Snyder, TX 79549
