BIG SPRING, TX — The new non-profit organization Friends of the Historic Downtown Big Spring organized its first official event this month with the Cinco de Mayo Celebration that was held on May 3, 2025 in downtown Big Spring. It included a car show, vendors, food trucks, live music, and kids activities. The event was such a success that community members continued to rave about it weeks after.
The organization is looking to grow by adding volunteers and board members. Another event is confirmed to be happening in the fall, and further details will be announced at a later date.
Lupita Weeks, a founder of Friends of the Historic Downtown Big Spring, told KBest News that the organization plans on doing more than just events.
“There will be a business round table. There will probably be something along the lines of communications and marketing because that’s such a big part; and planning and development, just as far as educating the community about historic downtown and highlighting buildings that have been there forever, what they looked like in the past, and where we are now,” said Weeks.
She went on to say that four new businesses will be opening downtown by the end of the month. They include a wine tasting and gift shop, 2 retail shops, and a lounge.
