BIG SPRING, TX — Students who earned a trip to a State competition were recognized yesterday morning by participating in the annual “State March”. The march or mini-parade, complete with cheerleaders and band, began at the BSHS Senior Parking Lot and traveled in front of the school to the auditorium.
According to BSHS Principal Mike Ritchey, student groups that were recognized today included 1 Men’s Track athlete, 2 Art students, 5 UIL Regional champions; Band students who attended the All-State competition, the BBQ team, Choir, and Skills USA/CTE students.
There are two more tennis doubles athletes who are advancing to the regional competition and may get to advance to State. If they advance, a separate State March will be held for them. The March was held yesterday since Don Diego Rios, track, was leaving to compete in today’s State Track Meet in Austin.
Ritchey told KBest News the annual State March at BSHS is a different way to recognize student excellence for those who compete at the highest level. It’s intended to inspire other students to work hard to reach state competitions.
