SNYDER, TX — Over the weekend Scurry County EMS and Cogdell Memorial Hospital issued a statement apologizing for a Babysitter Basics course that concerned parents after learning about the content.
The First Annual Babysitter Basics CPR and First Aid Training for Teens was offered on Saturday, April 26th, in Snyder. It was geared to teach younger teens CPR and first aid basics and to provide comfort to parents in knowing they have chosen a babysitter trained in basic lifesaving skills.
According to Scurry County EMS and Cogdell Memorial Hospital, the course was intended to provide instruction on basic safety, first aid, bathing, diapering and feeding practices for young children. Unfortunately, the educators delivering this course deviated from the approved curriculum and introduced sensitive topics that were not part of the planned or authorized material.
Both organizations stated that “certain comments made during the session were highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and do not reflect our organization’s values or beliefs.”
They went on to say that the staff members involved had expressed their deep regret for their lack of judgement and the distress and confusion this has caused for the families involved.
Both Scurry County EMS and Cogdell Memorial Hospital made the following the statement concerning the incident:
“We want to be very clear: we do not condone the information presented or the manner in which it was delivered. Immediate steps have been taken to address this incident with the staff involved by the leadership of both Cogdell Memorial Hospital and Scurry County EMS.
We sincerely apologize to all parents, guardians, and participants affected by this situation. The trust you place in us is invaluable, and we are committed to restoring that trust through action, transparency, and reaffirming our dedication to safe, appropriate, and family-centered education.”
