BIG SPRING, TX — During a city council meeting held earlier this month, Big Spring City Manager Todd Darden announced that the McMahon-Wrinkle Airport will be recognized as the 2025 Local / Basic Airport of the Year for the State of Texas. This is a huge accomplishment for the City of Big Spring as it’s a community award and a banquet will be held on May 6, 2025 to honor the airport staff and Airport Director Mike Feeley.
The Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport in inviting the public to join them for their event Fun Day on the Runway this Saturday, April 26th, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The runway has recently been repainted, and the public will have the unique experience of being able to walk, jog and play on it. Bikes, strollers and non-motorized transportation are welcomed on the runway. Several aircrafts will be on display along with equipment from Big Spring Fire Department.
Free hot dog lunches will be provided for attendees. Plus, there will be free t-shirts for the kids. During the event, the community will be asked to help check the runway for FOD, foreign object debris, which can lead to foreign object damage to airplanes. Runway 18/36 is 8,800 feet long and large enough to accommodate commercial jets.
