Free food, family fun and firetrucks and aircraft on display
(BIG SPRING, TEXAS)- The Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport has a runway that has just been repainted, and the public will have the unique experience of being able to walk, jog and play on it on April 26 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. The Fun Day on the Runway event is sponsored by Partee Aviation and Culligan.
“Most people won’t ever get the chance to have an experience on an airport like this,” said Mike Feeley A.A.E., Airport Director. “Anyone – child or adult- who has a fascination with airplanes and aviation won’t forget this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be on the runway before we put it back into service.”
Feeley said community members are welcome to bring bikes, strollers and non-motorized transportation onto the runway. The City of Big Spring Fire Department will have some of their equipment on display and Star Ford and Dodge will have new cars available for viewing. In addition, several airport tenants will have their aircraft on display.
Free hot dog lunches will be provided for attendees. The community is asked to help check the runway for FOD, foreign object debris, which can lead to foreign object damage to airplanes. Runway 18/36 is 8,800 feet long and large enough to accommodate commercial jets.
“If you’ve never been out to the airport, this is the day to come out and experience it when you can actually play on the runway,” Feeley said.
