ABILENE, TX — The Big Spring Steer Powerlifter competed in the Division 2 State meet last Friday in Abilene. According to Head Powerlifting Coach Sawyer Roberts, two of the lifters were coming off knee injuries and persevered. He went on to say through hard work and dedication, they showed that comebacks can be made.
Arturo Del Valle finished 11th in the 148’s with a 1275 lb total. Josiah Cavazos finished 11th in the 123’s with a 1000 lb total. Jestin Burchett was not able to get a squat, but he is commended for his valiant effort and comeback throughout this season.
“It was a pleasure to coach these young men throughout the season and the Coaches are looking forward to the big things Josiah and Jestin are going to be doing next season,” said Coach Roberts.
He also said that they were extremely proud of Arturo. “To have a career day at the State powerlifting meet, basically means he is a stud and deserved to be there.” Coach Roberts thanked Arturo for being a pillar to carry the program onto bigger and better things.
