(BIG SPRING, TEXAS)- The much-anticipated Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center’s All Abilities Playground will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the City of Big Spring’s Comanche Trail Park at noon on March 1.
“We’re proud to support a park where children of all abilities can laugh, play, and make memories together in Big Spring,” said Michelle Grove, Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center Executive Director. “The All-Abilities Playground provides a fun and inclusive space where kids and their families can explore, connect, and enjoy a great time together.”
The inclusive playground is designed so all children have equipment and activities they can enjoy that also help to develop physical, cognitive and social abilities.
“We were so blessed by the grant from the Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center Board of Directors that made this playground possible,” said Susan Himes, Director of Community Services, City of Big Spring. “This was a project two years in the making, and I know everyone has been anxious to come play at this amazing park which is the largest all-abilities playground of its kind in West Texas.”
Some of the park’s many features include seven slides, a sensory station, multiple jungle gyms, a wheelchair accessible play area and adaptive swings. A new parking lot was also created for the park which includes accessible parking. There are also benches and a picnic area. Sunshades cover most of the park equipment to protect from the Texas heat and inclement weather.
The City of Big Spring’s Comanche Trail Park is open sunrise to sunset year-round. The new playground is located north of the Russ McEwen Aquatic Center and Comanche Trail Amphitheater and just south of the Cotton Mize Baseball Field.
