BIG SPRING, TX — A new slate of officers was appointed during the February meeting of the D.A.V. Chapter 47 before handling routine business.
The new slate of officers include: Mike Tarpley as Commander, Danny Martinez as Senior Vice Commander, Michael Cole as Junior Vice Commander, Robin Tijerina as Adj. Treasurer, Damien Tarpley as Chaplain, and Clarence Hartfield as Judge Advocate.
The new slate of officers proceeded to work through routine business accepting last month’s minutes and treasurer’s report.
“We have been doing some good things since our last meeting and have been able to support a few local veterans who have been in a time of need. We are also gearing up for our next birthday celebration at Lamun Lusk Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, which the veterans really look forward to each month,” Mike Tarpley, new Chapter 47 Commander, said.
A birthday celebration is held the last Thursday of each month at 2:30 p.m. According to Tarpley, this is one of the ways the D.A.V. supports local veterans throughout the year. In addition to the birthday celebration a special monthly barbecue is held for the veterans at the CLC and domiciliary located at the West Texas VA Health Care Center. During the meeting, approval was given to provide support to the social services department at the West Texas VA through a donation of H-E-B gift cards.
“Life happens and our veterans may need a helping hand now and again. There are veterans out there supporting other veterans, taking care of family members, or simply just trying to get through the day to day happenings. Our mission is to help local veterans and that comes in many shapes and forms,” Tarpley said.
The next month’s meeting will be held the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
