MIDLAND COUNTY, TX — Texas DPS has identified the victim of a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Midland County yesterday morning.
On Jan. 21, 2025, at 6:43 AM, DPS Troopers were dispatched to State Highway 158 and East CR 160 in response to a crash involving a 2021 Ram 2500 and a 1996 Freightliner with trailer. According to the preliminary information revealed, the passenger truck was traveling westbound on State Highway 158 near East County Road 160 in the outside lane. The Freightliner with a towed trailer, was traveling westbound on State Highway 158, also in the outside lane ahead of the Ram 2500, driven by Christopher Aaron Vargas, male, 26 years of age, of San Angelo, TX. Vargas’ vehicle struck the trailer of the Freightliner from the rear. Vargas was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was discovered to not have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured. This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
