Big Spring, TX —Scenic Mountain Medical Center received an “A” in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grades, a national recognition for patient safety. The Leapfrog Group, an independent, nationally recognized organization, evaluates nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the U.S. twice a year based on safety and quality standards.
“Earning an ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group is a testament to our team’s relentless focus on providing safe, high-quality care to the Howard County region,” said Mallik Chowdary Yenigella, Administrator of Scenic Mountain Medical Center. “Scenic Mountain Medical Center is one of only two hospitals within a 200-mile radius to earn this distinction.”
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade incorporates up to 30 patient safety and quality measures, including data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Leapfrog’s hospital surveys. These measures generate a single letter grade that reflects each hospital’s commitment to preventing harm and medical errors.
“We remain committed to advancing our efforts to deliver safe, compassionate care that our community can depend on and positioning ourselves as the healthcare provider of choice in our region,” added Yenigella.

About The Leapfrog Group
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades (formerly known as Hospital Safety Scores) are assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.
