BIG SPRING, TX – The Salvation Army Angel Trees will soon be seen around town, and so will the iconic Red Kettles. The Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Once a child or senior adult has been registered and accepted as an “Angel” their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in the local community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree.
Beginning on November 25, 2024, Angel Trees can be found in Big Spring at Walmart and at the Heritage Museum, and in Snyder at Walmart. Shoppers can simply pick a tag off the tree and shop for that individual. The items need to be dropped off between December 9-18th at the Salvation Army, located at 811 W. 5th St. In Big Spring, items can also be dropped off at the Walmart service desk. Note, all items must be new and cannot be wrapped. The distribution date is Dec. 21, 2024.
Volunteers are being accepted now to ring the bell for the Red Kettles that will be stationed outside of the local stores. This year, in Big Spring the Red Kettles will be set up at the checkout areas of Higginbotham and Ace Hardware stores. Red Kettles with bell ringers will be stationed at both entrances of the Walmart, and at Bealls and Lowe’s during the weekends. In Snyder, Red Kettles can be found at the Walmart and United Supermarket. Money raised in the red kettles will go to assist the local Salvation Army with operating costs. To volunteer to ring the bell during Red Kettle season this year, sign-up online at registertoring.com.
