BIG SPRING, TX — The Letter of Alamo plaque unveiling ceremony was held yesterday morning outside of the Howard County courthouse. Several community members from local entities were present for the ceremony.
The program opened with “The Eyes of Texas are Upon You” performed by Big Spring High School’s Rhapsody under the direction of Texas King. The Masters Ceremonies for the event was Big Spring ISD Superintendent Jay McWilliams, and the Invocation was led by Howard County Judge Randy Johnson. Reeves County Judge Leo Hung was also in attendance and spoke about the Alamo Letter Society. Also during the ceremony, Doug Mays with the Historical Commission and the County Commissioners recognized student essay winners from Big Spring, Coahoma, and Forsan.
Others involved in the ceremony included the Big Spring Fire Department Honor Guard; Mike Tarpley, Vice Commander with DAV, Ch. 47; Glen Pugh, Outreach Specialist, Office of Communications with the Texas General Land Office; Heath Wilkerson, Howard College Assistant Professor, and the Howard College Thespians directed by April Langehennig.
