BIG SPRING, TX – On Thursday, the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony with Big Spring ISD to celebrate the upgrades at Blankenship Field, located next to Big Spring High School.
New turf was added so that the field could also be used for soccer since the sport had recently been added to the high school’s athletic program. Plus, new goal posts and pads were also added.
BSISD Superintendent Jay McWilliams told KBest News that the district is very excited about the new field at Blankenship.
“This would’ve never happened without the support of our wonderful school board and careful planning by everyone involved, including our CFO Susan Bryan. This is gonna be a huge benefit for our kids. Not only for our new soccer program, for junior high football games, but for our band program that uses this every single day; and I can’t wait to see our young young kids at the end of the year come out here for their field days,” he continued.
McWilliams went on to say that the district holds 4-5 track meets every year, so it will help with the wear and tear on the track. He said it would be great, not just for their kids, but for the community as well.
