BIG SPRING, TX — Delek Fund for Hope of the Delek US Big Spring Refinery recently awarded $20,000 to Evolving Futures, the non-profit branch for the new Big Spring charter school Pathway Academy.
Delek Fund for Hope was established to support charitable works in the communities in which Delek employees live and work. According to Jessica Rivera, Chair for the local Delek Fund for Hope Committee, the fund is made up of Delek employee payroll deductions and an employee match in any fundraising that is done.
She told KBest News that during a presentation from Pathway Academy’s Superintendent Dr. Thaddeus McCalister committee members had an opportunity to ask questions. Ultimately, the grant request from Evolving Futures was approved.
“So at the end of the day, we were all excited about what he had to say, and then it went back to a vote, to our committee. Our committee members each have their opportunity to vote anonymously, let us know what their amount is, and we take the average of everything. So after all that was said he did receive the $20,000 grant which is the highest that we’ve had from our Delek Fund for Hope, but we were all excited and on board to be able to give back to this starter and to give back to the community and to help the children in the future,” said Rivera.
She went on to say, “Our Delek Fund for Hope Committee is excited for this charter school that is coming to our community and the greater impact it will have with the families and children in our community. We are excited to be a part of Pathway Academy’s introduction to Big Spring and can’t wait to hire the first graduating students of Pathway Academy to work at our refinery.”
Delek Fund for Hope accepts applications for grants from non-profit 501 © 3 organizations. Organizations can request funding for upcoming events or if they need assistance to help get through the year.
