BIG SPRING, TX — Tonight the Big Spring Steers will take the field for the first game of the season.
According to Head Football Coach Cannon McWilliams, the team lost several seniors from last season but they’ve seen some kids come up to varsity for the first time.
“It’s been fun. Our kids are hungry. They wanna do good. They get after it, and that’s what’s been the fun part about it this year because most of the spots are up for grabs. So, we’re trying to find our dependables and which are the guys who are gonna play,” said McWilliams.
Big Spring will share the district with Andrews, Lake View, and Pecos. Coach McWilliams told KBest News that he hopes the team will play well, peak at the right time, and avoid injuries. He went on to say that Steers are competitive this year and their goal is to win the District Championship, which is something that hasn’t been done since 1990.
The Steers play El Paso Riverside tonight at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 PM. Listen to a live broadcast brought to you by the KBest Sports Crew on KBest Country 95.7, and on our mobile app KBest.
