BIG SPRING, TX — A new Facebook group has emerged to promote positive change in Big Spring – not by ideas but by actions.
Better Big Spring was started by local resident Scott Emerson as a way to encourage people to be the change they want to see. He told KBest News that he drives around town until he sees a spot that needs to be cleaned up, usually on the sidewalk or the city’s easement in front of businesses or homes.
“I started on the main thoroughfares, and then once we get those clean, it will spread to the inner streets,” he said.
Emerson told KBest News that he made a pledge to do one spot everyday for 30 days. He issued that challenge on Facebook.
“It’s a kind of a ‘Keep Big Spring Beautiful’ on steroids,” said Emerson. “If I could get 30 or 40 people clean one spot a day it wouldn’t take long really really make a difference in town.”
Last night, Emerson issued that same challenge to the Big Spring City Council and Code Enforcement. He even sold them 16 big eye hoes, a tool used to chop weeds, for just $1 to help them get started.
If you want to join the 30 day challenge, just take a before and after photo of the area you’re working on and post it to the Facebook page “Better Big Spring”.
