BIG SPRING, TX — West Texas Centers said goodbye to their CEO Shelley Smith after 40 years of service. Smith was celebrated at a retirement party at Hotel Settles on Friday afternoon where many friends and colleagues stopped in to wish her well in the next chapter of her life.
Smith has been with West Texas Centers since the beginning in 1994 when it was under development. It later opened in 1997 with Smith as the CEO. When asked what her proudest moment has been over the past 40 years, Smith said it was seeing services grow, seeing patients improve, seeing their consumers get better, and the annual event Hoops, Dreams, and Goals.
Her official last day was Friday, July 12, 2024. She told KBest News she plans to move to the DFW area to be closer to family, and she looks forward to spending time with them and with her husband.
The new Chief Executive Officer will be Rodney Jones. He worked with Smith for many years and was the Deputy Executive Officer for the last 6 years.
When asked what he looks forward to most in his he role, Jones said, “I look forward to the challenges. West Texas Centers is unique. We are a large geographical center. We serve 23 counties and we have those daily challenges. I look forward to working with our staff and employees, as well as the people that we serve.”
Jones first official day as CEO is a July 15, 2024.
