BIG SPRING, TX — Longtime West Texas Centers CEO Shelley Smith, LMSW, will retire this month from the Mental Health Authority she has championed the past 40 years.
A retirement party for Shelly Smith, long time CEO of West Texas Centers, will be held this Friday at Hotel Settles from 1-3 Pm. This is a come-and-go event.
Smith has led the rural community center from the time it was located at Big Spring State Hospital and moved to downtown Big Spring in the 1990s.
During that transition, she oversaw the immense growth of the organization that provides care for people and their families living with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and early childhood intervention in 23 rural counties in West Texas.
The close to 325 West Texas Centers employees serve more than 2,000 individual s and their families every month in Andrews, Borden, Crane, Dawson, Fisher, Gaines, Garza, Glasscock, Howard, Kent, Loving, Martin, Mitchell, Nolan, Reeves, Runnels, Scurry, Terrell, Terry, Upton, Ward, Winkler, and Yoakum counties.
Smith presented her letter of resignation to the West Texas Centers Board of Trustees on June 7. Her retirement will be effective on or before July 15.
