The Texas Department of Public Safety has some good tips to keep everyone safe in this extreme heat. Temperatures will stay in the upper nineties and 100s through the summer and that can be very hard to handle for a lot of us including the elderly, kiddos and our pets. DPS urges all of us to take precautions and do our best to stay safe. A few things on the list include staying hydrated. Drinking plenty of water through the day, especially if you are outdoors. Avoid excessive amounts of alcohol and caffeine as both of those substances will cause dehydration. Try to avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, usually between 10 am and 4pm. One of the most important things to remember, Never leave your children or pets unattended no matter what. Even a short period of time can be fatal inside of a vehicle for children and pets. Always take them with you no matter how short the errand will be. If you see a child alone in a vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately as quick intervention can save their life.
