BIG SPRING, TX — A ceremony was held yesterday to officially open the public display of the American Veterans Traveling Tribute’s (AVTT) Traveling Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom Tribute at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Big Spring.
The Tribute Wall displayed is 360 feet long. It includes the Traveling Vietnam Wall and tributes to other conflicts and attacks, such as the 9/11 and Iraq. This incredible display has traveled across the country to promote the remembrance of all those who have served our country.
Justin Edwards, also known as J Dawg with the Norsemen Motorcycle Club, helped escort the display through town on Tuesday morning and assisted in setting up the wall. Edwards told KBest News it was a special moment for him because his dad was a Vietnam Veteran.
“It’s a special thing because my dad was in Vietnam and it means a lot to me to represent for him and all the guys that didn’t make it back. I mean I’m big into the Veterans events or anything like that with the Norseman we’re gonna try to do as much as we can to help the vets and do what we can to just pay them the respect they need,” said Edwards.
He went on to encourage the public to check out the display while it’s in town.
“Come out [to Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home] and pay respect to the ones of the fallen [that] didn’t make it home, and to the families that are here that are paying the respect to, maybe, a loved one that they lost,” he continued.
Robin Hicks, Activities Director for Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez TSVH, told KBest News that the majority of the veterans at their facility have responded greatly to the display.
“So far, we’ve had a really good response. We have a few that it’s really heartfelt and there’s a lot of their family members friends that they don’t want to see and stuff but other than that we’ve had a really good turn out for it they’re really really excited,” said Hicks.
The display will remain open to the public today at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, located at 1809 U.S. Hwy 87 in Big Spring, until 4 PM.
