BIG SPRING, TX — A dedication ceremony for a new ultrasound machine that was donated to The Life Center in Big Spring, Texas was held yesterday afternoon. It was donated by The Psalm 139 Project, a pro-life ministry of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. The Psalm 139 Project raises money for ultrasound equipment and training staff to use it. This is the sixth machine they’ve donated this year.
The ultrasound machine offers the first image of an unborn child to the parents. According to Miles Mullin, vice president of the ERLC, hearts can be changed in that moment, thus, leading to a life being saved.
Until recently, The Life Center had been using a portable ultrasound machine. Glenn Faris, Association Mission Strategist at the Crossroads Baptist Association, told KBest News that he noticed there was a need for a new machine and encouraged the application for the grant to cover the cost of the new ultrasound machine, which was approximately $24,000. He also stated that he was preaching at Vincent Baptist Church when they found out about the need for equipment
for The Life Center, they immediately collected $10,000 to purchase an ultrasound examination table.
Tracy Watson, Director of The Life Center in Big Spring, told KBest News that the organization has grown from sharing a space with Affordacare on Gregg Street to having their own space that has been able to expand on Scurry St. Soon they hope to add a classroom space at their location so they don’t have to go off campus to conduct their classes. She went on to say that the Big Spring community has been so supportive in helping them provide for the families they serve.
“The Big Spring churches, and just a community in general, have just pitched in and they bring diapers in and we haven’t been short on anything. So, they’re very, very supportive. I’m very proud to live in Big Spring. Very proud to be a part of Big Spring. “
Watson added that The Life Center is for moms, dads, and families. We want to educate them, help them in their pregnancy and parenting in any way that they can.
“If we can make just a small difference in their life – when you traject that out, it’s a huge difference in their families,” she said.
The Life Center is a nonprofit, faith-based alternative to abortion organizations advocating sexual wellness through three areas of outreach: teaching about sexual risks, helping through pregnancy, and healing through restoration. The Life Center has locations in Midland, Andrews, Big Spring, and Odessa, Texas. They uphold and promote the value of human life at every stage of existence and development. The location in Big Spring opened in 2016 to serve women experiencing unexpected pregnancies.
