BIG SPRING, TX — The 20th annual Darrell E. Smith Hoops Dreams and Goals was held last week on the Sonic Floor. 10 teams from around West Texas participated in the basketball tournament. The event celebrates individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and gives them a special day to participate in their own version of March Madness.
The winners of this year’s tournament were the Abilene Bombers. The Spirit Stick was awarded to the San Angelo Bobcats, and the Midland Panthers won the award for the best Halftime Show.
West Texas Centers CEO Shelly Smith told KBest News that she felt this year’s 20th anniversary of the event went great.
“I couldn’t have asked for anything more for our 20th anniversary,” said Smith.
She said the event means a lot to her and she hopes the community will continue to come out and watch the games.
“Season by season they get to feel the spirit in here and we just think that’s really important,” she continued.
