BIG SPRING, TX — Local resident Amanda Goode, 38, will be competing in the 2024 Miss Texas USA pageant and will represent Big Spring, TX.
In 2023 requirements for Miss Texas USA contestants were changed to allow women who are or have been married, as well as women who are pregnant or have children. These changes allow for Goode to now compete.
When asked what motivated her to compete in the pageant, Goode said she had recently lost a large amount of weight and her original intention was to get on stage to compete in bodybuilding. A co—worker suggested that she compete in the pageant and she decided to go for it.
“I mean, why not?” said Goode. “You only live once and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again, but just to say that I did it and went through it. You know, it’s good for your confidence and I’m a risk taker anyway.”
She also went on to say that she hopes to inspire other people to chase their dreams and to not let age hold them back.
“I want to be able to help other girls, at any age, to say, ‘If she can do that, I wanna do that.’ You do lead the way. I mean, I have two daughters. I have a daughter that’s 18 and she’s like, ‘I wanna do it!’ Okay, so you can do it next year, you know, because I don’t know what we’re doing this year. I feel like age is not a limit and you can chase whatever dream you want no matter how old you are. I think that can help people or maybe inspire people. Anything you wanna do, you can do it,” she continued.
Goode will compete in Houston on June 21-22 in the preliminary competition that will include a swimsuit competition, a ball gown competition, and an interview portion. She is currently looking for a local person to travel with her to do her hair & make-up. She is also accepting sponsorships for anyone or business that would like to help her cover travel and lodging expenses but she is prepared to cover the cost on her own.
