COAHOMA, Texas — In the fall Reagan Chapman will once again be donning a Bulldog uniform before heading out to the gridiron, but this time it will be for McPherson College.
The Coahoma High School senior signed his letter of intent to play collegiate football at McPherson College in Kansas at a ceremony held in the CHS auditorium on Tuesday morning. He was joined on stage by his father and mother, Gregory and Kelly Chapman, and brother, Nathan, before he signed his commitment paper in front of a large crowd.
As one of the best kickers in the history of the CHS football program, Chapman recorded 135 career points and kicked a record long 44-yard field goal during his three years as a varsity player.
“I want to thank God for taking this opportunity to play at the next level,” Chapman told the crowd. “I want to thank Coach (Chris) Joslin for taking a chance on me three years ago. This wouldn’t have been possible without him.
“I also want to thank my parents for the weekends we’d spend in Dallas, Lubbock, and Abilene, so I can improve as a kicker and for always believing in me,” he continued. “Last but not least, I want to thank all my teammates, especially those who blocked, snapped and held for me. I could not have done this without you all. I pray that I make Coahoma proud.”
McPherson College is in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Division II and plays in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
Chapman told KBest News he plans to study finance while at McPherson. When asked how he felt about attending a college so far away from his hometown, Chapman said that it wasn’t his favorite but the location felt just like Coahoma.
