BIG SPRING, TX — On Wednesday afternoon, the Big Spring Fire Department responded to a fire at 1:57 pm in the wooded area west of Pine and south of the old GEO prison/Ramada Inn along eastbound I-20.
BSFD Interim Chief Jay Holt estimated that 30 acres had been impacted by the wildland urban interface fire. No structural damage and no injuries were reported. Currently, 85 percent of the fire has been contained. Cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation.
Other departments assisting with the fire included the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department, Glasscock County Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, Howard County Road and Bridge, and Texas Forest Service.
