BIG SPRING, TX — During Monday’s meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court recognized Brent Zitterkopf and Angie Worley with the County Clerk’s Office for receiving the Texas Health and Human Services Recognition for Excellence in the Vital Statistics Registration Process.
Emergency Warning Centers were discussed during the meeting as well. Itzel Gomez, Emergency Management Coordinator for Howard County, advised that Warming centers can be opened locally. She stated that organizations – such as churches or schools – would need to report needed information to her so that the information can be publicized for people who need those resources.
Information needed would include dates, hours of operation, chairs, and if there’s snacks and water available. If they do, the organization would be able to reach out to Walmart, H-E-B, American Red Cross, or Salvation Army for donations of food and water. They would also need to contact Gomez to help get the information out to the public ahead of incoming inclement weather.
Commissioners also approved the extension of the county burn ban for an additional 90 days, as suggested by Eric Barber with the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department.
Commissioner Doug Wagner, Precinct 4, advised Commissioners that a solar farm called Berkshire Hathaway Energy Renewables had reached out to him about setting up in the Industrial Airpark in Big Spring. After discussion on the item, it was decided by commissioners that no action would be taken at this time.
