HOUSTON, TX — On Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, Justice April Farris, daughter of Dr. David and Ann Ward of Big Spring and a graduate of Big Spring High School, celebrated her investiture to the First Court of Appeals with her family, friends, mentors, and many judges and lawyers.
When asked how she felt about the investiture, “The investiture was an opportunity for me to say thank you to the many people who have helped me get to this stage of my career. I got to thank my family and my teachers from Big Spring High School. One of my former high school teachers, Leland Mallett, was there.”
Justice Farris was appointed to the position in 2020 by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to serve a partial term until the end of 2022. In November 2022, Justice Farris was elected to the First Court of Appeals and was sworn in on Jan. 1, 2023. She is now serving a full 6-year term as Justice on the First Court of Appeals.
State courts exist to protect people’s lives and property in accordance with the law. Justice Farris told KBest News that she loves getting to serve the community in this way.
The First Court of Appeals in Houston serves Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Waller and Washington counties.
