Five Coahoma High School students will perform with the best musicians in the area at the ATSSB All-Region 6 band concert on Saturday.
Senior Kenan Kimberly, Senior Mathew Coskey, Freshman Ian Garrido, Senior Blake Guerra, and Freshman Esan Sullivan made the cut for a spot in the band after an audition process of hundreds of musicians in December.
Kimberly earned second chair in the baritone section of the Symphonic Band. Garrido earned fourth chair and Guerra made 12th chair in the trumpet section; Coskey, a trombone player, earned fifth chair; and on French horn Sullivan made 8th chair. These four musicians were selected for the Concert Band.
“I am very proud of these young men and all our musicians who auditioned. They voluntarily took on this challenge and opportunity to improve their musical skills, and they willingly dedicated a number of hours to prepare for the auditions,” said Michael Cason, CHS head band director.
The All-Region Band concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the Big Spring High School auditorium. More than 240 of students in the area will be participating in the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region 6 clinic and concert this weekend.
