ANDREWS COUNTY, TX – A Big Spring woman has been identified as the recent victim of a multi-vehicle crash in Andrews County which also left two others in critical and serious conditions.
Texas DPS Troopers responded to the crash early on Sunday morning, April 10, 2022, at 2:50 AM on State Highway 176, 18 miles east of Andrews. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the preliminary information revealed that Jose Zubia-Martinez, 56, of Andrews, TX, was traveling westbound on SH 176 in a 2015 Dodge Ram. A semi-truck described as a 2006 International truck with a trailer was traveling eastbound on SH 176. Joshua Chapman, 38, and his passenger Hayley Chapman, 38, both of Big Spring, TX, were traveling eastbound in a 2021 Ford F-350 with a trailer behind the semi-truck. Zubia-Martinez’s vehicle veered to the left into the eastbound lane of travel and entered the south barrow ditch. He then overcorrected back onto the roadway and struck the semi’s trailer. Zubia-Martinez’s Dodge Ram then spun to the right and then struck Chapman’s vehicle.
Hayley Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua Chapman was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Both had their seatbelts on at the time of the crash. Zubia-Martinez was also transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition. It was noted in the preliminary information that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
