BIG SPRING, TX — Unofficial results were released by the Howard County Elections Office on Tuesday night for the Primary Election. According to Howard County Elections Administrator Jodi Duck, the official results will be canvassed by the political parties, and those dates should be announced sometime next week.
Campaign Season continues for the offices of Howard County Judge and Howard County Commissioner for Pct. 2. Republican candidate Randy Johnson and Democratic candidate Dr. Steven Hobbs will face off in the November election for the office of County Judge.
After receiving a majority of the votes in the Primary, Johnson told KBest News that he was honored to know that he had a lot of support from people who voted, people who helped with signs, and with paying for ads.
“Thanks to everybody, I really appreciate it. That’s step one! We aren’t done but at least we got one step over, and thank goodness it was over 50 percent. I think we’re all ready for not having a runoff in this particular one,” laughed Johnson.
Democratic candidate Dr. Steven Hobbs was the only candidate listed in the primary on the Democrat side of the Primary Election ballot. When asked he liked the results but wished there had been more people to vote.
“I wish more of Howard County would come out and vote. It’s one of my major things. Our platform, one of the things we should be pushing for is getting everyone out to vote,” said Dr. Hobbs.
He noted that Primary and two-year elections don’t get the same kind of turnout as with larger elections, such as Presidential elections. Hobbs went on to say that he hoped the General Election will be much larger later this year.
Cash Berry received a majority of the votes in the race for Republican candidate for the office of Howard County Commissioner for Pct. 2. When asked how he felt about the amount of support he received, Berry told KBest News that it was exciting to see that the voters turned out for the election.
“I’m certainly going to try to do my best to represent Precinct 2 here in Howard County and I’m just excited to get to work with a great group of folks,” said Berry.
Now Berry will run against Brad Garrison, a candidate running under the Libertarian Party as an independent, for the office of Howard County Commissioner for Pct. 2 in the General Election on November 1, 2022.
Doug Wagner, Kandi Campbell, and Mike Averette will not continue their campaign seasons, as they are now unopposed for their respective offices. Their new terms will begin on Jan. 1, 2023.
