Yesterday was Primary Election Day and although polling locations were scheduled to close at 7 PM, over 100 voters were still in line waiting to cast their ballots. According to Jodi Duck, Elections Administrator for Howard County, no incoming voters were allowed in at the polling locations but those already in line could continue to wait. Polling locations were officially closed and early voting results became available at approximately 8:15 PM on Tuesday night.
Unofficial results can only be released at this time by the Howard County Elections Office. According to Duck, the official results will be announced at a later date by the political parties – Howard County Republicans and Howard County Democrats.
Steven Hobbs was unopposed for the Democratic nomination for Howard County Judge and Randy S. Johnson received a majority of the votes for the Republican nomination. Johnson had 57.22% of the votes. Robert “Bob” Stapp had 29.17%, and Tom Land had 13.61%. Hobbs and Johnson will now run against each other for the office of Howard County Judge in the November 2022 Election.
Cash Berry received a majority of the votes for the Republican nomination with 58.38% of the combined votes for Howard County Commissioner, Pct. 2. Rick Morrow received 22.93%, and Lewis Boeker received 18.69%. Berry will now run against the Libertarian candidate Bradley Garrison for the office of County Commissioners, Pct. 2 in the November 2022 election.
The following candidates received a majority of the votes in their races but will remain unopposed for the November election and will serve in the office for which they ran. Those with the majority votes are as follows:
Howard County Commissioner Pct. 4 – Doug Wagner
Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Place 2 – Mike Averette
Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, Place 1 – Kandi Campbell
Doug Wagner received a majority of the votes for the Republican nomination of County Commissioner, Pct. 4, with 55.50% of the combined votes. John H. Cline received 44.50% of the votes.
Mike Averette received a majority of the votes for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Pl. 2 with 64.30% of the combined votes. Robert “Bob” Smith had 35.70%. Averette was appointed to his current term and this is the first election that he has run in.
Kandi Campbell received a majority of the votes for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, Pl. 1 with 84.08% of the combined votes. Patrick Gonzales had 15.92%.
