BIG SPRING, TX — Texas State Representative Drew Darby made a stop in Big Spring yesterday afternoon to meet constituents and give an update on several topics important to them.
While speaking to constituents, Darby recognized the local government’s handling of the pandemic and spoke on the winter storm that deeply impacted the state in February of this year.
Darby advised that the make-up of the Public Utility Commission had changed, but he didn’t feel that any changes were truly made. The 5 PUC commissioners are now all from Texas, but they don’t have to be competent. He also stated that the make-up of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, was also changed, and winterization of generating entities was discussed.
Almost $30 billion came to Texas from the federal government. With the funding, Texas was able to support education, the Department of Transportation, rural healthcare, broadband, and rural medicine.
Darby also spoke on the last legislative session, stating he felt it was productive with the exception of the 6 weeks that many of the democratic representatives were in Washington DC as a form of protest. He advised that upon their return, there was animosity, and relationships and traditional alliances were harmed.
The next legislative session will begin in January 2023.
