Yesterday, Howard College celebrated its 75th anniversary of the very first day that classes were held.
During a full day of celebration, Dr. Cheryl Sparks, President of Howard College, was joined by the Howard College Board of Trustees and Representative Drew Darby, and community members to unveil the new sign at Southwest College for the Deaf (SWCD). While at SWCD, the McGary Regan Foundation was recognized for its support, and a presentation on the Dom Bonura Memorial Scholarship was given.
Later, a recognition ceremony at Howard College for the Big Spring Area Community Foundation (BSACF) and the new Greg Henry New Horizons scholarship was announced. The scholarship was named after Greg Henry, former Director of the BSACF and Howard College graduate and former staff member. These scholarships can be awarded to a recent high school graduate who didn’t plan on attending college but decides to go at the last moment, someone with a GED, a parent whose child has just started school, or a displaced worker looking for a different career path.
A gala was also held at Howard College in the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on the Sonic Floor. Many past and present Alumni were honored and several sent in video messages describing their time within The Howard College Community.
Congratulations to Howard College on celebrating its 75th anniversary!
