Here are the results of the Big Spring Lady Steer lifters in Corpus Christi this past Saturday, Mar. 20, 2021, at the Girls State Championships, as reported by Big Spring Head Powerlifting Coach Sawyer Roberts:
Jha’Niah Johnson, had a fantastic season, but unfortunately she was not able to get a squat in and she bombed out of the meet. She is already chomping at the bit to get back to the State meet next year as a senior, I have no doubt she will be back better than ever."
Senior Ashlin Calvio, had a great powerlifting career, and finally earned a trip to the State meet, unfortunately as well, she bombed out on squat. She will be missed on the team, she was a fantastic leader and competitor!
Gissele Holguin, as a sophomore she is already the 11th strongest girl in her weight class in the state! She competed her tail off and earned personal record’s on her Squat and Bench! She finished the meet with a 670 lb total!
Jocelyn Gonzales, capped off a short but extremely successful powerlifting career, with a bronze medal! She had a record setting day for Big Spring High School, she set the school record on her total with 1000 lbs!! She set personal records on Squat with 395, Bench with 185, and Deadlift with a whopping 420lbs, she was inches away from a state record pull of 445 lbs! Jocelyn will be sorely missed mainly for the fact of her steadfast leadership within the powerlifting program.
