BIG SPRING, TX — The Big Spring High School Golden Belles kicked off the new year with a brand new training facility – Knock Out Dance Academy, located at 1907 Birdwell Ln, Suite E – in Big Spring, owned and operated by Niccolette Wells, Director, Founder, and Choreographer for the BSHS Golden Belles Dance Team.
The Golden Belles Dance Team began in Spring 2021 with a small squad of less than 10 girls. In a short time, they’ve grown to a team of 16 and have proven to standout in competitions. In 2021 they placed 4th in Home Routine from the Universal Dance Association (UDA), and in 2022 placed 3rd in Home Routine from the UDA and also received the “Team Full Out Award” as well. By placing 3rd with UDA the team has qualified for a national competition in March 2023.
Amaiya Hernandez, Junior captain for the Belles, says she loves the new practice space.
“I love it so much! It’s like our own space that we can have and no one can kick us out. It’s just like a home,” said Hernandez.
When asked how she felt about the upcoming competition season, Hernandez told KBest News that she was excited about what was to come.
“The work that these girls have been doing, it makes me happy,” she said.
This Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, the Belles will compete in Lubbock in three different team categories- hip hop, contemporary, and pep rally for competition – which is a really exciting crowd pleasing routine. They’ll also have three additional pieces for the competition which includes solo performances by Jalynn Wagner and Angelina Rivera. Plus, a duet will be performed by Amaiya Hernandez and Daniah Wrighter.
According to Wells, by placing 3rd with UDA the team has qualified for a national competition in March 2023. There will be 130 high school teams, 40 college teams, and multiple teams from all over the world. Wells told KBest News that the experience will be great for the girls to compete in front of a large crowd and at a big level.
“The 40 college that are there, they are competing in their own divisions but they’re also scouting. Which is really cool, so the girls will get to go and meet other college dance teams and talk a little bit about those dance programs. And the World’s Competition, I just think it would be really neat for them to just watch it and experience that,” explained Wells.
Good luck to the Golden Belles this weekend!
