The 10th Annual Comanche Warrior Triathlon will take place tomorrow at Comanche Trail Park. The triathlon will have 3 events: 500-meter open swim in Comanche Trail Lake, a 30K bike ride out and back on city and county roads to one of the highest elevations in Howard County, and a 5k run that will be a loop completed on closed trails and roads in Comanche Trail Park with a few good hills.
Hayley Herrera, Tourism Coordinator at the Big Spring Visitors Bureau, stated that as of now there are very few people from Big Spring that have signed up for the event and the vast majority are people from out of town. This event has been so successful that it brings in regular competitors every year, Herrera stated that runners love the topography, the open water swim, and beauty of the Comanch Trail Park.
You can still register online today for a discounted price of $65 for individuals and $110 for teams. If you wait to register on Saturday at the event, the price will increase to $75 for individuals and $125 for teams. You can also register in person at Dora Roberts Community Center today from 5 AM to 8 PM. There will also be an opportunity to practice the open water swim from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Comanche Trail Lake.
On Saturday, the entrances to Comanche Trail Park will be closed from 7 AM to 1 PM for the triathlon, so participants and spectators will need to be inside the park before 7 AM. Golfers are asked to use the Parkway St. entrance to the Golf Course during this time.
