COAHOMA — The Bulldogettes found themselves in an 8-point hole early in the first set against the Lady Wolves on Saturday when Head Coach Jamie Bonner called her team into a huddle.

“I told them we have got to play our game,” she said. “We control the tempo of the game. We are going to control our own offense, and we’re going to make them play defensive. We stepped up, and we finally played our game.

Refocused, Caitlyn Corley started off Coahoma’s climb back with a solid kill. Fellow teammate MaKynlee Overton followed with an ace. Both CHS upperclassmen were instrumental in Coahoma’s first district win recording eight kills a piece.

After conquering the first set 25-23, Coahoma (1-1, 9-15) stayed ahead winning next two sets 25-13 and 25-13 despite confronting a tough Lady Wolves defense throughout the match.

“We knew coming in C-City is never going to give you an easy game, ever,” Bonner noted.

“They compete hard at everything. They are going to work hard, they are going to hustle, they are going to get to the ball, and they are going to make plays.

“We made some plays on our side that came from all out hustle, and we executed well,” she added. “We finally put the ball away. MaKynlee Overton just came out swinging. That was huge for us, and our teamwork was solid.”

Beside her kill count, Overton led the Bulldogettes with three aces and three blocks. Zoie Joslin had 18 assists. Julia Cox and Kirah Kimball had four kills each. Cox also recorded an ace.

Overall, Coahoma swept the Lady Wolves on Saturday. The JV Red team won in two sets: 25-20, 25-1

Next: The Bulldogettes travel to Coleman on Tuesday for a district match against the Lady BlueKats. The JV games begin at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. The varsity game gets under way at 6:30 p.m.
