West Texas VA Health Care System will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the first of four planned ‘Small House’ Community Living Center (long term care) buildings.

Sand Castle Small House, the first of four planned ‘Small House’ community living center buildings, is designed to offer the best in comfort and privacy for WTXVAHCS Veterans who require long term care. Each ‘Small House’ unit will consist of ten private rooms, with private baths, and designed space and furnishings to accommodate visitors – even overnight.
Each building will also feature an open and inviting community space with electric fireplace, full kitchen and living room area.
The current project began April 21, 2017 with a groundbreaking ceremony and construction was completed September 11, 2019. WTVAHCS staff have been working to equip, test and prepare the first of its kind structure for occupancy and will officially open Sand Castle at the March 10 ceremony.

Spa/Bath and Laundry room double as safe rooms/tornado shelter
Common living area (living room, dining room and kitchen) – 1600 sq. ft.
