During this week’s meeting of the Big Spring City Council, there was an emergency reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 3 of the Code of Ordinances, entitled “Animals” in response to the recent canine distemper outbreak at the Big Spring Shelter and the Big Spring area in general. With this new amendment, pets will now be required to have the DAPP vaccine. Along with protecting against canine distemper and parvovirus, the DAPP vaccine also protects pets from adenovirus and para-influenza.

The Amendment will also add a new section to Chapter 3 of the Code of Ordinances that will be section 6, entitled “Shelter Vaccination of Animals” that will allow the shelter to provide vaccines to animals upon intake.
