Designed to increase awareness of the Crossroads area in the state legislature, every two years local residents and officials will once again join at the state capitol for Howard

County Day at the Capitol Wednesday, February 27, 2019.

The planning committee indicates there will be a full slate of activities planned for the day long event.

“For those who are planning to take advantage of the bus we have chartered, we’ll be leaving from the east parking lot at Howard College’s Dorothy Garrett Coliseum at 3:30 am” said Teresa Darden, Executive Assistant with Big Spring EDC.

Be advised that it will be $40 to take the bus. Food and drinks on the bus will be the responsibility of those traveling and on the way back the bus will stop off in Spicewood at Opie’s BBQ which will be Dutch treat. Arrival back to Howard College will be approximately 7:30 pm.

According to the planning committee, the time at the Capitol will be well spent, featuring a number of events to help highlight Big Spring and Howard County.

Resolutions will be read on the floor of the House and Senate proclaiming February 27, 2019 Howard County Day at the Capitol. BSHS Meister Singers will be performing in the Extension Open Air Rotunda, and pictures with our Legislators.

Darden said area residents planning to attend are asked to register ahead of time, whether they will be taking the bus or a private vehicle, by contacting the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce or the Big Spring EDC office. Also be advised that the deadline to pay for a bus ticket is February 15th.

“We’re asking everyone to wear a Howard County shirt with khaki pants or skirt”, Darden said. “If you don’t already have one of the black Howard County shirts, you can

order one by contacting the Big Spring EDC office. They are $29 and the deadline for the black Howard County shirts is January 25th."

Darden said the planning committee works very hard to make this day a great success.

Howard County Day at the Capitol is an excellent way to catch the attention of lawmakers in the Lone Star State and let them know Howard County residents are very interested in how state policy affects the Crossroads community.

“This is a great chance to see first-hand how the legislature works,” she said. “They make the laws that affect our lives, day after day. It’s very important that we let them know we’re interested in how the laws they make impact our lives.”
